Contractor Spotlight: GCI Home Improvements

Category: All, Blog Post, Industry News

GCI Home Improvements opened its doors in 1996. It serves the greater Washington, DC metropolitan area, most notably towns like Great Falls and McLean in Virginia and the towns of Potomac, Bethesda and Chevy Chase in Maryland. GCI Home Improvements specializes in roofing, and also does windows, siding and gutters. The company prides itself on the fact that the same crew has been working together for over twenty years. Unlike some roofing companies, each installation crew member is trained and qualified. Co-founder, Joseph Etienne, does all the job estimates. He said, “I like to get involved with customers and get to know them. I want to build a relationship.”

“I like to get involved with customers and get to know them. I want to build a relationship.”

His main priority is customer satisfaction, to the point that he does not accept payment until the job is done to satisfaction. And that policy speaks for itself; GCI Home Improvements has an A+ rating with the BBB and hasn’t had any client complaints in the 20+ years they’ve been in business. Clients have been so happy with the quality of GCI’s work and service that all new business now comes from word of mouth. Joseph has a passion for EcoStar that runs deep. In fact, it is a passion for the environment that fuels his actions each day. The recycled content that comprises EcoStar roofing tiles is what made Joseph fall in love with the products. It’s his mission to put EcoStar on every roof. He loves to tell his customers that they’re diverting materials from landfills by purchasing EcoStar. The longevity of an EcoStar roof is a huge selling point for Joseph. He said that the roofs he installed 10-15 years ago still look like new. Because of the superior product quality and natural slate appearance, EcoStar roofing tiles have been used on multiple historical buildings throughout the nation. Joseph likes to cite examples across the country including Berry College in Mt. Berry, GA and the historic train depot in Ellensburg, WA. GCI Home Improvements usually installs 2-3 EcoStar roofs per month, and more in the busy season. In fact, they have 5 roofs this month! Their problem right now is that they’re too busy (a good problem to have!). “I’d like to help everyone, but we’re so busy right now. “Sometimes, when roofing companies get busy they take advantage and raise their prices. I hate that. We keep our prices the same, no matter the season.” said Joseph.

Joseph works primarily with Ed Taylor, the EcoStar sales rep in the Washington DC area. About Ed, Joseph said, “He’s knowledgeable, laid back and helpful. My success in EcoStar I owe to Ed.”
